South Africa Region

There are Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart from eight countries working in the Diocese of Tzaneen, Limpopo Province in the far north of South Africa. The Diocese is bordered by Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Our mission is to bring Christ's love and compassion to those suffering - the sick - especially those affected by HIV/Aids, the orphans, the refugees, the poor, the homeless and the vulnerable.

Bakhita Village provides a place of safety for girl children at risk, either having been orphaned or vulnerable as a result of HIV/Aids. Donations towards the cost of providing for the needs of the girls are gratefully received.

St Brendan's is a Catholic Boarding and Day Secondary School.

Holy Family provides an award-winning home in Ofcolaco for vulnerable children - especially those suffering from HIV/Aids. The children are referred by social workers, local hospitals and the children's court. There are about seventy children being cared for - some are babies and are often very ill when they arrive, almost all orphaned and many having been abused or abandoned. Sisters are involved in:

  • Health care and psycho-social support of children
  • Administration and review of Anti-Retroviral (ART) and TB treatment for children
  • Educational programs and liaison with the local schools attended by the children
  • Outdoor activities and holiday programs
