In celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, the Honorable Anthony Albanese MP, Prime Minister of Australia, sent a heartfelt letter congratulating the Sisters of the Australian Province on this momentous Jubilee. I’m delighted to send my warm congratulations to the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart on the 150th anniversary of your founding.

From your arrival in Sydney in 1885, you have sought to live out the mission of your first leader, Marie Louise Hartzer:

‘be always kind, let all feel that you love them.’

Working together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for more than 100 years, you share a relationship built on respect and reverence. Your support for constitutional recognition and an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice is an expression of your faithful work in support of reconciliation.

As teachers, carers and friends, the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart have given selflessly to communities across Australia and around the world. By listening – to the teachings of your faith, to the love in your hearts and to the needs of those you serve – you live out what it means to walk together towards a better future.
